New FaderPort from PreSonus!

PreSonus has had a big year in terms of product releases. Their new line of Studio Series interfaces, StudioLive Series 3 and the Holy Grail that is Studio One Version 4 (see here) to name just a few. Despite all of the massive improvements in technology over the last few years, the classic Faderport from 2007 is still a favorite of engineers everywhere. It allows easy integration to most DAW's for transport control, automation and overall just getting your hands off the mouse and being able to focus on the music again. Within the last year, we got the FaderPort 8 and 16, but I think many people (myself included) are most excited about the updates to the classic FaderPort. Let's take a look!

New Features

To start, it has a new look that matches the other new FaderPorts. The transport controls are in a little bit different arrangement for more ergonomic workflow. It also has a new power button in the back next to the footswitch jack and USB port. The new fader also supports 1024 steps in capable DAW's. That is serious control when writing automation. Small steps like that can really set your mix apart from the amateurs and help it breathe. My personal new favorite feature is the Session Navigator section - the grey, boxed area in the center. This will speed up workflow in any DAW. You can select the function you want to control underneath the encoder (pan, channel, scroll, etc.) and the FaderPort will assign the control to that function. You can now easily scroll through your session timeline, write pan automation with feeling, and even nudge vocal tracks around to get them to fit right. This is a feature not yet available in Studio One until now! This new FaderPort and its full-featured cousins (FP8 and FP16) also ship with the latest version of Studio One Artist software. Once you try Studio One, you will want to make the switch immediately! In my personal studio, the original Faderport was one of the best investments. The new one has some new features that I, and thousands of other engineers have been waiting for. At a street price of $199 ($100 in free software as well), you can't go wrong with the new FaderPort! As always, enjoy FAST and FREE shipping on any order in the continental US.
