What's New?
The new Launchkey models have been refreshed to a more minimalist design which is both pleasing and functional. Beyond looks, these new keyboards now sport a number of improvements and come bundled with new software.
OLED Display
Each model now has a crisp, high-contrast, OLED display to show more detailed information as you navigate the various functions. These new displays help to elevate the entire product line.
- Clear and bright 128 x 64 monochrome OLED.
- Improves navigation and feedback while reducing abbreviations.
- Graphic representation for chords, great with Chord Detector, Scales, and ChordModes.
- Displaying chord types helps users understand the notes that comprise each chord and learn their names
Semi-Weighted Keybed (on select models)
The Premium 49-Key and 61-Key models now have a semi-weighted keybed. These are the best-ever keys that Novation has included on the Launchkey line to date. These new keybeds feature sprung-back keys, individual coil springs on each key, smooth key down, weights for balance, and a lipped-style key profile.
These models also include Layers and Zones for greater creative control.
New Velocity Sensitive Pads
The pads are the hub of Launchkey, enabling you to perform chords, enter notes, launch clips, and control the step editor for the generative Arpeggiator. Launchkey has 16 Launchpad-style, velocity-sensitive drum pads for launching clips, playing chords, and finger drumming.
Novation has developed a unique patented design for the FSR (Force Sensitive Resistor) in the pads to enable great performances and never miss a beat.
The pads also include polyphonic aftertouch, allowing each pad to respond individually to varying amounts of pressure, enabling more expressive and dynamic playing.
3 New Chord Modes
Trigger full chords with a single key using Fixed Chord Mode, store chord progressions with User Chord Mode, or explore 400 banks of handcrafted chords per key and dynamic performance modifiers with Chord Map.
Chord Map
Chord Map lets you explore harmony with curated chord sets matching your scale and increases performance variations.
- The Adventure control increases harmonic complexity from pop progressions to jazz.
- The Explore control provides you different chord sets for each Adventure level.
- The Spread control adjusts chord voicings across the keyboard.
- The Roll control adds a strum-like effect.
- The Performance Pads let you play ascending/descending notes, chord runs with inversions, and 'two-handed' patterns with Bass and Chord or Chord Split.
User Chord
Create signature progressions with User Chord Mode.
- Store up to 16 chords.
- Transpose stored chords in semitones or octaves.
- Chord detection shows users which notes are used to create the chord via the OLED display. You can also toggle this feature off if needed.
Fixed Chord
Fixed Chord Mode enables the user to record a fixed interval chord and then play it backfrom a single key.
- Launchkey features a dedicated button on the top panel for instant access and quick experimentation.
- The Chord Detector displays the chord on the OLED display.
Improved Generative Arpeggiator with Pattern Step Editor
Launchkey provides users with a powerful onboard arpeggiator to take control of both hardware and software.
- The new Arp Pattern mode adds an 8-step editor to the arpeggiator, providing access to rhythmic patterns directly via the Launchkey pads.
- Arpeggiator parameters can be altered via the new continuous encoders.
- Perform over an arpeggiated pattern using either part A or part B with the zones on Launchkey 49 and 61.
Scale Mode (Now with an additional 22 scales)
Scale Mode now lets you lock your keyboard to one of 30 different scales.
Beginners can effortlessly create pitch-perfect harmony and melodies without prior musical training, while advanced users can explore more exotic chord types and drive their creativity in unique and inspiring directions.
- Scale Snap rounds any notes outside the selected scale to the nearest in-scale note.
- Scale Filter mutes any notes not in the selected scale, so only in-scale notes are played.
- Scale Easy maps the scale to the white keys with the root note replacing C, disabling the black keys for a simpler playing experience.
Conclusion
Launchkey has been re-engineered to look, feel, and play like an instrument — from the high-quality keybed and unique patented Launchpad-style FSR pads, to the continuous encoders and crisp, bright OLED display. Launchkey combines these elements with onboard creative tools that allow you to produce chord progressions, bass lines, melodies, and sequences with expression and speed.
